Did you know you could make lotion and body butter with seaweed? It’s the mermaid secret to soft, smooth, healthy skin! You’ll love our homemade body lotion recipes made with Bladderwrack and Irish Moss powder.


Seaweed helps with skin renewal by drawing out dirt, oils, and toxins. Using seaweed in your body butter also adds healthy nutrients like protein, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants back into your skin. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by stimulating circulation and replenishing skin moisture.

Coconut And Seaweed Body Lotion

5 tablets of Beeswax
1 c. Coconut Oil
5 Vitamin E Capsules (as a preservative)
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil
15 drops Lemon Essential Oil
2 tbsp. Bladderwrack Powder

In a double boiler, melt beeswax and coconut oil together. Slowly blend all other ingredients. Let cool about 15 mins. Pour into your container of choice.

Coconut Whipped Body Butter

1 c. Coconut Oil
1 tsp. Vitamin E Oil
2-3 drops of Almond Oil
2 tsp. Bladderwrack Powder

Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl. *Note: Do not melt the coconut oil first. It will only whip up if it's solid. Mix with mixer on high speed for 6-7 mins until whipped to a light and airy consistency. Spoon the body butter into a glass jar and store at room temp.

Best Seaweed Lotion

1/3 c. Bladderwrack Powder
1 c. Coconut Oil
2 tsp. Lavender Oil
1 c. Shea Butter
½ tsp. Vitamin E Oil

Blend in all ingredients. Whip on high speed 6 mins until light and airy. Put in decorative jar.

Beeswax Lotion

1 c. Olive Oil
1 c. beeswax
½ c. almond oil
½ tsp. Vitamin E oil
10-20 drops of your favorite Essential Oil
2 tsp. Bladderwrack Powder

Combine the almond oil, coconut oil, and beeswax into a large glass jar. Place the jar into a pot, ¾ filled with water. Warm the water over med/low heat. Stir the mixture occasionally. Heat the blend until thoroughly combined. Next, remove the mixture from the water to cool. Stir the lotion every 15 mins until it has reached room temperature. When completely cooled, mix in essential oil, vitamin E and organic powder. *Note: Make sure not to get water into the lotion mixture.

Almond Oil Lotion

8 oz. Beeswax
¼ c. Coconut Oil
¼ c. Almond Oil
½ c. Water
2 tbsp. Bladderwrack Powder
1 tbsp. Grape Seed Oil
1 tbsp. Vitamin E Oil

Combine beeswax, almond oil, and coconut oil in a double boiler over med/low heat. Once fully melted, remove from heat and allow to completely cool. Combine  the remaining ingredients in a separate large bowl. Blend together. Add the beeswax, almond and coconut oil blend. Mix thoroughly. Place in a clean sanitized jar.

Calming Lavender Lotion

1/3 c. Coconut Oil
1 tsp. Beeswax
2 tsp. Bladderwrack Powder
5 drops Lavender Essential Oil

Melt the beeswax and almond oil in a double boiler on med/low heat. Once melted, add Bladderwrack powder and lavender oil. Let cool completely. Using an electric beater, whip the cooled lotion 5-6 mins. Your lotion will be ready to jar. It should be shelf stable until the expiration date of your coconut oil.

Ginger and Lime Whipped Body Butter

1/2 c. Shae Butter
¼ c. Coconut Oil
¼ c. Grapeseed Oil
1 tsp. Irish Moss Powder
10-20 drops Ginger and Lime Essential Oils

Add shea butter, coconut oil, Irish moss powder, and grapeseed oil to a large glass measuring cup and melt in the microwave in 20-second increments. Let the liquid mixture partially set up. Once opaque and holds indentation, add essential oils. Whip with hand help mixer until fluffy and stiff peaks form. Scoop the whipped butter into your container of choice. If the butter starts to melt at room temperature, simply re-whip it and store it in the fridge until ready to use.

After Bath Silk Dusting Powder

1 oz Dried Rose Petals
1 oz. Dried Lavender Buds
1 oz. Dried Orris Root
1 oz. Irish Moss Powder
4 oz. Arrowroot Powder
5-6 drops Violet Essential Oil
5-6 drops Lilac Essential Oil
Food processor
Large bowl
Wooden spoon
Airtight glass container
Makeup brush/ Powder puff

Grind the dried rose petals and lavender buds into fine dust using a food processor. Pour floral powder into a large bowl and set aside. Pour the orris root into the food processor, and grind into a fine dust. Add orris root powder to floral powder and mix with a wooden spoon. Slowly add the Irish moss powder and arrowroot powder and continue to mix. Add violet and lilac essential oils and stir until blended thoroughly. Store the silk dusting powder in an airtight glass container. Silk dusting powder can be kept for six weeks at room temperature without losing its fragrance.
